Rauw Alejandro
In 2017, Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the most-streamed song at the time within six months. The song is a blend of reggaeton and pop music has not just brought attention for reggaeton, it also drew interest to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 had four songs during 2016, which was compared with two in 2015. At the peak of Despacito's success in 2017, 19 songs that were mainly in Spanish were in at the very top of 100. This figure grew to 41 in 2020. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages from Despacito (2017) popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake with Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna together with Maluma on Medellin (2019). In the year 2020, a handful of reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at its inclination towards mainstream. However, a younger generation including Rauw Alejandro was determined to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. The genre often incorporated elements from electronic dance music, along with other styles.
