April Ross
April Ross has won more than one Olympic medal. She is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball athletes to achieve this feat. Ross will compete in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic medal with Alix Klineman, a first time Olympian. Ross is determined to earn more than just her first Olympic medal. As she is 39, it could be her final chance to achieve it. Her confidence is high and confident, but. Ross was born on the 22nd of October, 1982. She was raised in Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents and sister. She went on to compete in a myriad of activities during her time at Newport Harbor High School. In addition to playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and ran track while an athlete in the pre-professional stage. She clearly was the top player in indoor volleyball. During her high school career she was a middle blocker outside setter and hitter on a volleyball court as per her school bio. The results of her efforts were acknowledged by her being named the 1999 Gatorade's Circle of Champions National Players of the Year. She also won her the Orange County Athlete of the Awards in 2000. Although Ross and Klineman have been playing together since 2017, the former was already an established player on the beach scene way before they teamed up. In fact, she's been a major player in the world of beach volleyball for many years. In fact, Ross won several tournaments, including one with an iconic volleyball player. For six years from 2007-2013 she played alongside Jennifer Kessy who more recently worked as Klineman's coach. Alongside Kessy Ross, she was a major force on the international stage, claiming a world title in 2009. They were awarded a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. They were defeated for the gold by the famous team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh (Jennings). Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. They were awarded the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics the year 2016. Ross was a student athlete who played for the Trojans at USC before beginning her pro career. The Trojans were at high school as well as in the years before hitting the beach as a professional. The time she spent at USC was impressive. The Trojans were an All-American and Pac-10 freshman of the year in the year 2000. She also helped the Trojans get to in the Final Four. During her sophomore year she experienced a devastating personal loss but still managed to make it back as an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons she led the Trojans on a climb and took home consecutive national championships. Individually she had cemented her place as a legend receiving this year's Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross took a course in International Relations at USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie didn't get to watch Ross rise to the very top in beach volleyball's acclaim. As of 2001, when Ross was in her sophomore year on the campus of USC her mother passed away of cancer of the breast. But, she will always keep her mother's memory close and close.
